I discovered my love for photography in 2001. According to the trend at the time, I bought a digital camera. I had a lot of fun taking pictures with it for a while (examples can be seen in the gallery).
However, I discovered my fascination with black & white photography. The work of many of the great b & w photographers impressed and inspired me immensely.

It soon became clear to me that there was only one reasonable way of achieving the image aesthetics and quality that I desired. It was 'back to basics'. Which meant starting with analog photography and processing the materials on my own from pressing the shutter to making the final print in the darkroom. I remembered my old Minolta X-700, that I had bought way back as a teenager. It still worked perfectly after all these years of disregard. In the mean time, I was also using medium format (6x6), and it still fascinates me to observe the magic whenever a new image evolves in the developer.

Pretty fast I started to appreciate the internet as a tool which offers great help for this passion. Here I have the possibility of learning about photography and darkroom skills and to discuss with others in different boards. Also it gives me the chance to present my images online.

It was this experience that that led me to join with like minded people to create the association PhotoPortale e.V., which was founded in 2002. Visit us on our web-site!

I'm glad you found my site. Henri Cartier-Bresson once said: "A good photo is a photo you look at longer than one second". In this spirit, I would be pleased, if my page invites you for a longer stay.
